Is the Kato SD38-2 good for a Frisco model? I know the rear screens must be replaced but what other details?
I don't know the answer to this, but if you wanted to save some work intermountain is producing all 4 numbers the Frisco had on the SD38-2. Not sure when they will be out, but should be sometime this year.
I would have to see one in person and see it run before I purchase another Intermountain Locomotive. I am a Kato fan.
My only experience with Intermountain locomotives was with their FP7 and F7B models they did in Frisco b/y. Drives were good, in fact very good. Body shell was good, but some details not correct - like putting d/b on the Frisco F7B's. Their paint colors were off (yellow too lite), and no nose green anti-glare paint. WSW's were hideous. Model lacked many of the Frisco specific detail. I gave it a B- grade, but eventually sold all that I purchased - one FP7 and three or four F7B's. Not much help, but that's what I thought. K
I bought the Intermountain HO GP-10 model of Army 4607 since the prototype is assigned at Ft. Leonard Wood MO. The sound is terrible, but, other than that, it won't stay on the track. Let the buyer beware.
