Howdy folks, Does anyone know of a manufacturer of 40' flat cars that are close to a 1930-1950's prototype? Best Regards, mike
Mike - How about the Red Caboose RC-2210 series? (HO, SLSF) It represents the 95300 series of 42ft flats, built 1928. I've built one (SLSF 95305), nice car. I have two more in the "stacks". Ken
Howdy, Great idea. I have two in the closet, too. Unfortunately, I need eight more and they are out of production. I'll start searching the internet or paint and decal from other roads. Thanks again, mike
Mike, Sunshine Models out of Springfield offers resin kits for 40' Frisco flats correct for that time period. Brad
Action Hobbies in Tulsa has one of the Red Caboose flatcars in stock. I saw it this past saturday while stopping in on the way home from the OKC show. Bob Wintle
Mike - I just checked the Red Caboose web page - it does indeed look like the Frisco 42ft flat car is out of stock. The undecs are also out. Just proves that Frisco cars do sell well! Wish these guys would do more of them. There are many other roads still available from Red Caboose, however. You could pick one in the right color with the least amount of lettering and go with those. There is/was minimal lettering on the car, on the side beams only. Oddballs has a good HO decal set for the car (#187-373) as long as you want a yellow car - the lettering is black. The Red Caboose car is in box car red with white lettering. I know in their later life these SLSF cars were yellow. I presume in their early life, they were BCR as Red Caboose did them. Anybody know if that is correct? Ken
Howdy, Thanks for the tips folks. I'll call Action, and see what else I can rummage up. I like Sunshine kits, too, so I'll check them out. Best, mike
