Please see the following link for a trackside view of the Menard, TX depot.

The town was originally known as Menardville, TX. According to the Handbook of Texas Online, as the railroad arrived in 1910 or 1911 it requested that the town shorten its name to facilitate the station name signs.

The depot's agent / operator bay faces north. Railroad west is to the right. The depot was built in 1912 by the Frisco as part of the Fort Worth and Rio Grand (FW&RG) Railway which was sold to the Santa Fe in 1937.

The Santa Fe operated the line as the Menard District (Brownwood - Menard, TX). The Santa Fe discontinued service to Menard, abandoned the line and donated the depot to the city in 1972. The depot was reopened as a museum in 1978.

The depot address is 100 Frisco Avenue (a/k/a US Highways 83/190). It is currently occupied as a museum by the Menard County Historical Society, (325) 396-2365.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

    Mark
