Does anyone know the Dupont or PPG paint color codes for Frisco Caboose color red or is it the same as caboose red? Need to find out so we can start a painting project over the winter. Also does anyone know of a stencil or graphic place that might be able to make a full size Ship It on the Frisco for the caboose? Thanks!! Steven M Harvey American Steam Railroad
Steve, I will look through my archives and see what I can come up with. Maybe some others on the website have some info on the correct shade of red for the SLSF cabooses. |-||-||-||-||-||-||-||-|
Do appreciate the effort. Want to come up with the right shade of red if possible other than caboose red. Steven H.
Steven: Are you able to obtain a fair-sized paint chip, about the size of a quarter? Often times, when you pull away window sills, or other framing, or molding, the paint is in much better shape, as it was covered up. I'm assuming you're restoring a full-size Frisco caboose (?). If you could take a sample chip to either a home improvement center, or hardware store, that sells paint, they should be able to match your sample. Though I'm not sure of your situation, I hope this might be of some help - my sincere apologies if not. As Rick eluded to, there are probably some folks who can provide the precise answer. Best of luck! Bob Lenexa, KS
My memory's not what it used to be, but, I don't recall seeing any really, really red Frisco cabooses. Seems to me that they were a brownish red color.
The brownlish-red color was tuscan red, also called boxcar red; the newer 200's were painted tuscan red when new, then caboose red, then mandriun orange and white. Some of the 1100 series ex Santa fe cabooses were painted silver, as well as caboose red. Most wooden cabooses were painted tuscan red with a light green interior. Light green interior was pretty comon on Frisco cabooses. Richard
Richard, I know that a couple of the Frisco built, steel frame, wood side, steel end cupola cabooses that were painted silver to serve in maintenance of way service. An example is the caboose assigned to the Springfield wrecker train SLSF 382, later renumbered SLSF 1145. Please see the following. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=124834 (6/11/1967) http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=124837 (11/11/1969) However, I have not seen any of the former Santa Fe cabooses in silver. Do you have any photographs or know the numbers of the cabooses you reference? Hope this helps. Thanks! Mark
I was thinking of #1147 BN #11512 on display in jewett, tx, I thought I remembered it being painted silver. Richard
How do these versions sneak past everyone? Put that cupola in the center and you could subletter it for the NEO in their own scheme.
Steve, I am still looking for a paint number but I neglected to ask what type of caboose that you are working on? Wide Vision? Wood Cupola? Ex ATSF Steel caboose? Other? Thanks.
