I don't know if this one has been posted before or not but this old caboose is just north of the Hospital on the west side of highway 13 I don't know what her number is as that information was not put back on when it was repainted sometime back. The steps have been removed to keep the vandails out it looks strange with the steps gone.

  2. It's hard to tell for certain, since the immediate area was significantly changed when highway 13 was built, but I think this caboose is planted very near the location of the long-vanished KCC&S depot.

How many side door cabooses did Frisco have? Are any others still out there?

    Darren,

The caboose at Osceola, MO is the former SLSF 1150. Please see the following posts: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?search/16465652/&q=frisco+caboose+osceola&o=date

It is nice to see that the locals have worked to maintain, paint and try to preserve the caboose. Unfortunately, that took drastic measures to remove the end and side steps to keep out the vandals. Before this was done, vandals had broken out all the window glass some of their frames and all of the interior. Sad to see this was required even in such a small town.

I hope we can encourage communities and museums to more accurately maintain the paint and lettering on their Frisco rolling stock on display. From the photographs, paint diagrams, modeling information and local contacts in this collective group, it would be nice to see a concerted effort to encourage and improve the accuracy of historical equipment paint and lettering.

Does someone in the group have the skills to produce full scale templates we could share with local community and museum leaders?

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

the link in your post shows the caboose where it was first spotted just to the north side of the main comming into osceola just to the west of what was old 13 hwy that ran on the west side of the square. I can remember the windows broken out and the caboose in very bad shape, but living in the area I had not noticed the steps being removed until today. I guess when you are used to seeing somthing you don't pay that much attention to it. just like I had forgot what the number was on it. :)

    Thanks

    Darren

Look in my album, which has photos of the Smoky Hill and Belton Grandview and Kansas City RR photos plus the rare Ava, MO rail yard and depot pic. There is a photo of that same caboose, which I took a shot of in 1991 there as well. Gary Wayne

I went to caboose #1150 with my parents and took measurements of the caboose. I then built a 100 % scratch-built HO scale model of the caboose.
