Howdy, I recall that Doug Hughes built an autorack model years ago. Are there any kits available that represent Frisco autoracks? Best regards, mike
The only HO scale Frisco autoracks I have seen are the old Life-Like plastic models. It would take a ton of work to even get one to look nice. You may have to get an Athearn kit and costum paint and decal(if they exist). This is the only options I know of I need a few so I'm hopeing for good replys Ship it on the Frisco!!! Murphy Millican
Mike, Please try the following for our friends in "N" scale: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/489-11200160. Decals that are helpful include: Oddball Decals for 1960's era open racks http://mopac1.tripod.com/247.gif, http://mopac1.tripod.com/245.gif, http://mopac1.tripod.com/187-247a.jpg and Microscale Decals for late 1970's era enclosed racks http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2...ode=87-711&Category_Code=SLSF&Product_Count=2 Thanks! I've scratchbuilt several to fit Athearn flats and supplied the artwork for the Odd Balls decal set. Here are photos of 3001. Doug
Wow! Cool model! A fresh load of Corvettes from the Union Blvd Chevy plant in St Louis - from just about the time frame that as a young boy I enjoyed the tour of the plant. Great work, Doug!
Off topic, but - I heard, at the time, that my '63 roadster came down the production line the same day as General Curtis Lemay's. When did production move to Kentucky?
It used to be a great visit here in StL for a tour of the Corvette assembly plant in the huge Chevy plant at Union and Natural Bridge. You could smell the glue! I bought my first car when I graduated from MSM - a 1964 Chevy Impala SS, with a 327, from Gene Jansen Chevrolet, who was right across Natural Bridge from the Chevy plant, for $2830. Imagine that! Still had to pay the normal delivery charge! Ken
I will research this more and get more detailed later, but for the time being I started another thread several weeks ago concerning Athearn announcing production of a new flat car that carried autoracks and the Frisco was one of the RR's that used it. Someone on another group that I am on said at the time that they (Athearn) were looking for RR specific plans for the autoracks. To that end, if anyone out there has a set of the plans for the autorack frame (either double or triple deck) that the Frisco either built or purchased, I would appreciate if they would contact me off list. I have a reliable contact at Athearn and we can work to make sure they get to the correct person.
There are three RTR autoracks available for N scale. MicroTrains, stock#112-00-160, yellow with black lettering, road number 913609, Trailer Train, three tier empty, 3/09 release. Atlas, stock #unknown, yellow with red lettering, road #none, Trailer Train, three tier with 12 automobile load, 1960's release. Rivarossi, stock #6010 C, yellow with black/white lettering, road #42460, Trailer Train, three tier with 12 automoble load, 1960's release. The Atlas and Rivarossi models have sign boards and hand rails that are different, but have the exact same automobles. It looks like both factories were side by side with a big box of cars in the middle, only one is in Europe and the other here in the states. Must have been a big box. LOL. Joe
I just returned from the train show in Tulsa and bought 3 Accuready rack cars. Does anyone think it would be possible to change the UP (yellow) rack car to Frisco? The yellow seems a little light, but some weathering should take care of that. Thanks, Terry
I was just checking ebay, 3/6/10 2:00pm Central, and found a N scale Atlas autorack for bid. Item #130371516163. Currently has one bid for $0.99, 5.85 shipping, ends March 7, 16:25 PST. It does have some damage and no trucks or couplers. C-4. Add says it is repairable. Joe
