If I am not mistaken, about half of the 1500 were coal burners and the rest oil burners.

It's a matter of when. I am away from my stuff, but I believe that the last group was delivered as coal-burners, but were quickly converted to oil. At the end several (1503, 1522?, 1525 et al?) were converted to coal.

I think they all were "delivered" as coal burners, but were oil burners in their heyday. There's a picture of 1503 converted back to coal in Collias' Frisco Power.

Looking at Frisco in color there is a picture of 1515 and from what I can tell is its a coal burner. The pic is dated summer of 1948 pulling the Dewey campaign train.

There is circumstantial evidence in the Frisco Employee magazines that the 1500-1514 were delivered as oil burners. I believe that Collias has an early-day photo of the 1500 with an oil bunker. The 1515-1519 series were delivered as oil burners. The 1520-1529 series were delivered as coal-burners converted to oil in the following order 1523, 1521, 1520, 1528, 1522, 1527, 1529, 1526, & 1525.

    During 1948 the 1503, 1504, 1511, 1513, 1514, 1523, 1525, & 1525 were converted to coal, and they carried 20 tons of coal in their tenders.
