Does anyone know of a sound file anywhere of the type of air horn used by the Frisco on the E-Units?
    Thanks,
    Tim

I think a simple google or alltheweb would find it. It was a Leslie M5 with a nice A7 chord inverted around the C#. Go to a piano and play C# (right above middle C), E, G, A, & C#. It'll sound wonderful and just what I remember hearing at 9:30 each evening after the Texas Special crested Dixon Hill.

I just did a search and found some great links from http://atsf.railfan.net/airhorns/. It lists the Leslie S5 info, complete with sound samples, at http://atsf.railfan.net/airhorns/m5.html and mentions use by the Frisco. But the chord isn't the one I remember. The Leslie S5 chord is a Bmaj9.

The A7 chord from my long-gone past memory is listed for the Nathan M5 at http://atsf.railfan.net/airhorns/m5.html but no mention of Frisco use.

Hummm. X2200 South ran a two-part feature on air horns many years ago. I just threw mine away while cleaning out the basement for our move to Michigan.

SoundTrax has some pretty good horn sound samples programmed on their DCC decoders. Anyone have a favorite? Doug

Doug, thanks for the help. I am looking for the sound of the "as delivered" horns on the Eunits. They look to be two single horns facing opposite directions. Go to www.chaffeemissouri.com/EUNIT.wmv and you will see the project I am working on. It takes place in Chaffee in November 1952. I know a WMV file is pretty crappy but it is a small file size. I have this in an AVI file (much, much better quallity!)but it is a huge file. If you are interested I can mail you an AVI copy. Just send an address. I am very excited about finding this clip. I have started the final edit and effects. Let me know what you think.
