This car has been nicely preserved. The windows, steps, end ladders and return hoops to the roofwalks are in place. Note the screen doors on the ends. This is a useful feature on hot summer days when the car was used as lodging for crews laying over between runs. Unfortunately, the underbody air brake equipment including the brake cylinder, reservoir and control valve have been removed.

This caboose is of the early Frisco standard design that featured a steel under and upper frame, with a wood cupola with tapered side walls and small end windows. Please note the steel rods attached to the upper side sills used to reinforce the cupola. A later car design modification featured a steel cupola with vertical side walls and large end windows. These cars typically did not have the exterior reinforcing rods on the cupola.

The car is painted freight car red and features lettering in stencil white. Also included is a Frisco coonskin herald. Note on this car the hardware including grab irons and railings are painted black. This is appropriate for the steam and very early diesel eras.

This caboose was formerly located near Ada, OK. It was moved to its current museum location in the Fall of 1997. The car is on a short display track coupled to a former Santa Fe steam locomotive ATSF 1951. This is a Baldwin, built in 1907, Consolidation type, 2-8-0 wheel arrangement engine.

The caboose is on display at the Santa Fe Depot Museum. The museum is based out of the 1905 Santa Fe depot. This is within 1 block of the current Amtrak depot. Please see http://www.paulsvalley.com/santa_fe.html.

The address is 204 E. Paul Ave., Pauls Valley, OK 73075.

    Please see http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...oid=uEoZ-UvJwLcvytnu5a4EJA&cbp=12,111.78,,1,5.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!
