Please see the following views of Frisco caboose SLSF 1139 (2nd).

The Frisco acquired 28 similar cars to replace wooden cars in local service. The car was purchased by the Frisco during 4/1971. This is one of the former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe cabooses constructed by American Car and Foundry (ACF) in 1927. This is the former ATSF 1578.

This caboose is the second car to carry the number SLSF 1139. This car was built by the Frisco in the West Car Shop during 1938.

While at its current site, the car has seen several uses and has moved around near the entrance to the campground. Originally it was coupled to a former Great Northern plug door boxcar used for storage. It was then separated from this car and moved north near some pick nick tables. Prior uses have included a meeting room, a sleeper, a game room and the car is now used as a movie theater.

Unfortunately the car was moved again in late 2009 or early 2010 away from its former open and easy to photograph location near the railroad. It now is adjacent to a hillside on the west, the office on the south and has an added wooden awning further obstructing the view especially of the cupola. The car has been repainted solid red and lacks reporting marks and numbers.

The car is located 10 miles south of Castle Rock, just west of I-25, Exit 174, Tomah Rd., at Jellystone Campground, a KOA Kampground. Please see http://www.castlerockrvpark.com.

The car sits on west side of the interstate highway, next to the north side of the campground office. This is immediately west of the exit across the west (south bound) railroad main track of the "Joint Line".

The car location address is 650 Sky View Ln., Larkspur, CO 80118 (a/k/a 6527 S. I-25, Castle Rock, CO).

    Please see http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...d=l7dZ5wTwKLvT1Gw0fhtfcg&cbp=12,230.5,,0,7.64.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!
