I was just given a caboose cupola seat that is reversible. It would have been on one side of the cupola, centered on the floor between the two end windows. The long, upright back would flip much like some of the passenger car seats. It is in need of lots of TLC and new upholstery. Is it possibly a Frisco caboose cupola seat? Some pictures of similar seats are attached for reference. The first is a confirmed Katy seat. The one I have is like the last two pictures.
Nice find ! I know the Frisco 1200s did not have this type of seat, they had two fixed seats facing each other on each side of the cupola, because of the window spacing. The 1400/1700 Frisco cabooses could have had this type of seat, but I don't know for sure.
This is the cupola seat from 1776. http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/1776-a-first-look.6570/#post-51071 It may not have been typical for the 1700's.
It was a sad day when the cabooses went away, they used them for work trains for a while. Don't know if their is any left.
When we made our ill fated trip up to Minnesota (never made it past Bettendorf, IA) we had a fresh out of the shop BN caboose on the end of the train. I rode up there until our pilot truck started running hot. Slept in there a couple nights on the bunk. Bad part was they had loaded the chemical toilet with some really smelly stuff and it had been closed up for a while. It was a nice cab though.
Ha, those things were really bad, I remember when I first started, when you flushed, you could see the tracks out the hole. They kinda stopped that, the crews used to try to flush by the tie gang. Then they put timers on the Tollets which made it a real game.
