The caboose SLSF 734 drew the honor of joining the 4-8-4 steam engine SLSF 4516 as it served its retirement at the State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, MO.

Sometime between the time of this photograph in May 1968 and 1974, the caboose SLSF 734 was replaced by the Frisco caboose SLSF 1109.

Ultimately the caboose SLSF 1109 wound-up in Sarcoxie, MO, and a now MP steel caboose rests behind the 3-8-3 SLSF 4516.

Anyone know the ultimate disposition of the caboose SLSF 734?

I had heard that the caboose dry rotted so badly it had to be replaced.

I do know that the 4-8-4 SLSF 4516 is also not bring properly cared for.

The last time I was there with my dad, the rails under the engine had disappeared into the ground but the MP caboose looked pretty good.

I always thought it was ironic that the 4-8-4 SLSF 4516 and a Frisco caboose ended up in the Missouri Pacific's (MP) big shop town.

MP did not bother to save any steam other than an old 4-6-0 at the National Museum of Transportation, in Kirkwood, MO and a piece of a 2-8-0 at Dupo, IL.

Wish someone would do something with the 4-8-4 SLSF 4516.
