    Dear Rogerrt477,

    Thanks for this great post.

My mother was born in Canalou, Missouri and lived there until she was eight years old.

Would you happen to know what branch line, subdivision or division of the Frisco this was on?

    Dear Karl,

Many thanks! I have been looking for this information for some time.

As I wrote above, my mother and all her five siblings were born at home, in Canalou, where there was no doctor and you had to take the train to reach the nearest pharmacy. My older aunts and uncles knew the station agent and his family, and also the man who threw the mail sacks off the railway post office (RPO) as the train passed.

My family moved away from there, looking for a better future circa 1952, after all the old-growth forests had been clear cut for lumber, and the land converted to farming. I have a picture of some of my family standing outside the Frisco depot while waiting for a train that would carry away a family member whom we would not see again for fifty years.

Everyone is smiling, but it was a dark time for the family because World War 2 changed everything. It was no longer possible to live an isolated rural lifestyle as they always had.

The young ones, including eventually my mother, simply did not feel the same about life as had their parents. They had different expectations. And by this time, circa 1948, the railroad in Canalou was already ailing.

These days, Canalou is mostly just a wide-spot on a highway; it barely exists.

    Paul,

Attached is the page that covers the Leachville Subdivision taken from Employee Timetable 39A, June 15, 1956.

Service was provided by a tri-weekly freight that carried passengers in the caboose.

If you get a chance to scan and upload the photograph of your family at the Canalou depot?

I am sure that many folks here would appreciate it.

Seems that we lack too few photographs of smaller Frisco locations.

    Best Regards,
