I was looking at Steam Era Freight cars, and found this Frisco freight car: http://www.steamfreightcars.com/gallery/boxauto/slsf162854main.html A similar car from Springfield-Greene: http://thelibrary.org/lochist/frisco/friscoline/images/photos/p00840.jpg Is that K brake equipment? How long did K equipment stay in service before it was replaced?
Your first example has a "K" triple valvle. The second example has an "AB" triple valve. The "AB triple" valve was developed during 1933, and all cars built after this date had to be equipped with this valve. The final deadline to replace "K triple-valved" cars with the "AB triple valve" was 1953.
Thanks, Karl. I thought they looked a little different. I wish I had a better idea of what the layout was like underneath these cars--I always enjoy reading Ted Culotta's columns in the Craftsman because I learn so much from them. Here's something I was looking at: http://www.steamfreightcars.com/modeling/articles/brakes.pdf I might try putting K under a few cars, as it works for the 1950 timeframe.
