When ordering my book the lady at Ron's told me that she had purchased the first one when they arrived there and they had done a wonderful job on it and I would really enjoy it. I asked her if she was a Frisco fan and she said no that she purchased any book related to dining on any RR. I felt this to be a very creditable recommendation.
HA HA HAAAAA!!! with all this talk about peanut butter and dining cars, kinda makes ya wonder if Peanut Butter was available on a FRISCO dining car, and if so.....what Brand!!!!!
Re: Frisco Menus Speaking of one our favorite Jayhawks: what are you up to these days, Rick? Best Regards,
The book arrived today. I have only skimmed it for a minute. My initial reactions are positive. It looks like a good read. Charlie
I recieved my books from Ron's Books today. "Nothing Could be Finer than a Frisco Diner" looks like a nice book. I know very little about the Frisco's diner operations, so this should be a fun and educational read. Yeah, I would have liked to see more on the specifics of the Frisco's diners, but we can add that on line. Ron also sent my copy of friend Lou Marre's book "The Diesel's First Fifty Years". I was taken aback when I first saw it, massive and heavy though it may be. It looked like a bigger version of Lou's nice 1995 paperback book for Kalmbach "Diesel locomotives: The First 50 Years". Those of you who have both, and have had a chance ot look at this new book, please tell me it is completely redone vs the 1995 book, with a lot of new stuff, and is well worth it. That should be the case, given how big and heavy the new book is. Thanks. Ken (Waiting to hear back - I have not yet unwrapped the new Marre book!)
For those of you who have yet to order a copy of the (TRRA) Terminal Railroad Association of St Louis Historical & Technical Society's publication for the year 2009, (Issue Number 69), featuring the joint Frisco/Katy "Texas Special", I received notice today that there are less than 20 copies left if you are interested. FYI. It is 154 pages of No's 1 & 2 info, history and pics. Ken
No freight cars, several vintage passenger car photos. You'll probably have to look elsewhere for decal candidates. Tom G.
Re: Frisco Menus I received this book on Monday and finished it today (Friday). I have to say, it was a good, quick read, with lots of interesting photos (although the images of the last passenger trains through SGF are a little sad). Now if I can persuade the wife to try some of the recipes.... GS
The local hobby shop has 5 titles on sale: Frisco Southwest Frisco Power (Museum Version) Frisco Steam Finale Steam Locomotives of the Frisco Line Frisco in Color The books are out of print and priced according. Let me know if you'd like for me to grab a copy for you.

Wonderful pics... curious as to what picture #45 in the gallery is... converted coach painted silver with an Air Force [?] logo... MoW what? E8s galore and guest appearances by a Sperry Rail Services motor car. Good stuff.
Re: Frisco Menus Someone else can probabaly elaborate on the details, but that air force car hauled aircraft parts around the country for the USAF. Tom G.
It's unfortunate that the resolution isn't higher, but there is much to see none the less. The 100 pictures give a very nice look at Frisco passenger operations around the Springfield area. There are a few others taken at the West Yards and Shops. I don't believe that any are older than 1964-65 Image 13 has a nice look at the white-light signal, which are discussed in this thread http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread...-KC-to-SGF&highlight=springfield+depot+signal For the ALCO lover see Image 27 Image 40 shows a "passenger" geep spliced between two E's Several of the images have great depictions of passenger crew members, Image 53 is but one. Lots of nice shots of the Business cars UP and Espee cars in Frisco passnger trains; Image 93 shows a UP car. Of the 100 pics, Images 67 and 68 are my favorites. Two nice shots of 102 as it passes WS Junction
