Have one of these on the way, and was wondering if anybody has any experience in making it look more like an American from the Frisco stable.

You might start by looking at threads by Jim James.
Believe it's on 'A new direction for the Zalma branch'

Hello fredman. I had one for a few days but returned it for a Roundhouse 2-6-0. Looking back, I should've kept the Bachmann. This was before I went DCC. Now I would like to get another one with DCC and sound. I think the oddly placed driving wheels is the only drawback to making this super close to a Frisco prototype but I would scan all the 4-4-0 loco photos on the Frisco Library site and find the closest pic you can find that is close in many ways. Then alter and modify as much as you can. I'm not the prototype expert here but I think you could make decent representation from this Bachmann model. Good luck and keep us updated on whatever you do to it. I might copy your efforts:)

Thanks for the input, and your Zalma branch looks fantastic. I'll let you know how things turn out.
