I put the original motor back into my beloved 4-4-0 and polished all contact surfaces and added a pick-up shoe on the tender and now she she runs smooth and as slow ad I want it to go. There is hope for cheap steam power. Here's a short clip showing ol 97's ability to creep along without a stammer or hiccup.
