I grew up just 40 miles north of Reform and have traveled through AT&N territory for as long as I can remember. However, I was born after the line was abandoned. I had no knowledge of the AT&N until I learned about it almost 20 months ago on this website. Since then, I have done quite a bit of research on the AT&N including a recent trip along part of the line.
To get to my point, the combination of the AT&N's history, my familiarity with it's territory, and my desire to freelance a layout with a Frisco orientation has inspired me to change my HO layout theme to a freelanced, modern era, restored and extended AT&N.
My AT&N layout theme will aquire the entire old AT&N R.O.W. and completely modernize it from Mobile to Reform into a Class I railroad. In addition, for purely selfish reasons, the AT&N will extend 40 miles northward to connect with the BNSF at Sulligent. It's time to paint my coal loads and turn them into wood chip loads! Ship it on the Frisco!

Excellant idea. You're gonna have a blast building this one.

Sounds like a great thing to do Brandon.
That way you can run wild with the proverbial modelers license:D
    Have fun with it!

This is just wrong on so many levels.

Everyone knows you're not supposed to have fun with a model railroad. It's much more serious than mere vulgar entertainment. Indeed, a model railroad is to be laboriously researched, 100% scratchbuilt, and modeled with a fastidiousness and dedication even down to modeling the correct-sized raccoon excrement beside the rail. (And don't forget to research the correct color for said excrement.)

Where some of you get the idea this is supposed to be FUN is beyond me.

    :)

I'm very exited about freelancing a modern era AT&N theme. Just imagine what the AT&N would be like today as a Class I railroad, proudly displaying it's heritage.
Today, I put up some panels that I painted sky blue around my layout. This is the first time I've had a background in a layout... that is if a solid blue panel is considered a background.
I have a couple of UB30 dummies. A few months back I practiced painting them. They turned out OK for my first attempt but now I want to strip that paint and paint them in the last AT&N scheme and team them up with some Frisco O/W power or my 4-8-2. However, I can't find the color photos I need. What were the colors on AT&N steam locomotives and tenders, diesel locomotives, and cabooses? Also, are there any pictures anywhere online taken during the Carrollton Shortline Railroad era? I'd like to see some of those for heritage purposes.

    Brandon,
The AT&N owned the 400 series 2-10-0 decapods, and 4-6-0 ten wheelers, and a few 2-8-0 consolidations. Diesel wise, the had a lot of Alco RS-1 & 2s, plus the 45 Tonner side rod #11 that worked the Island. Yesterday, a Website for the AT&N was posted to this group with lots of color and B&W photos of the AT&N.
