109 assigned locals, road and mine switchers, May 1, 1977. Attached as a PDF file.

All locals/switchers and local service operated with extra and pool crews and assigned a four character train number.

The first two digits of the train number indicated the sub-division of operation. Following are the sub-divisions sorted alphabetically and numerically.

By going to the sub-division in the division folder and opening the folder called "Station List and Mile Poles" one can cross reference the TPR Stations or the origin and final station numbers to determine the limits of operation.

I pulled the raw text in Mike's original post into a text file and then deciphered the text file into Excel to create a readily understandable file.

The attached pdf on Mike's post is the result.

    Very interesting and useful information.

What is the difference between a local and a road switcher?

A local could work every town from origin to final destination.

A road switcher will set out/pick up cars at specific locations, usually yards, between origin and final destination.

Does anyone have a similar list for assigned locals and road switchers for a date closer to 1973?

For Train 3742, what does VIA 338B mean for type of service?

    B338 is Bentonville, AR.

This job originates/terminates in Rogers, AR, and makes a turn to Bentonville.
