The color photo is December 1977 listed as mobile, AL, The B&W photos have a unknown date, listed as Mobile, AL again taken by the Frisco Railroad. I agree, all are taken on Blakely Island.
that great, i just came by blakely saturday, and the TASD its sad that frisco own that also and they sold all that too, thats a money makeing spot down there lots of business.
According to John Chambers, ex. Frisco #11 that is pictured in this thread is now located in none other than Neodesha, KS. It services the Watco facility there that originally was the site of a Standard Oil Refinery and then a Berwind Tank Car repair facility that Watco took over and now operates. I did a Google Ariel Map search and sure enough, the locomotive can be seen on what I assume to be its locomotive servicing track at the south end of the facility next to fence adjoining the Frisco (now Watco) classification yard. It still looks to be painted black with yellow handrails and the roof has a rusted look just like the old GP7's.
Re: ALABAMA, TENNESSEE AND NORTHERN RAILROAD The locomotive is also visible at the same spot on Bing Maps, but not in the Bird's Eye view.
Re: ALABAMA, TENNESSEE AND NORTHERN RAILROAD I was in Neodesha Thursday afternoon. I talked to two employees getting off work. One knew nothing, and the other said it had Cummins engines. I told them about the engine's history. As we were all leaving, the one said there were 2 more small switch engines there. Someone else will have to photograph them.
Re: ALABAMA, TENNESSEE AND NORTHERN RAILROAD To me - "N-15" does not look like our little guy (ATN/SLSF 11). Railings are different, rear truck has been changed out. Hard to tell. Ken
All neat photos guys. Keep'um coming! Regarding "N-15", a truck change is a possibility thus having replaced the original. The handrail modifications plus the addition of steps would have been required to perform switching duties. Not an EZ task for switchmen on the as built #11. Perhaps WATCO has paperwork where the history of the switcher can be traced? Joe Toth
Re: ALABAMA, TENNESSEE AND NORTHERN RAILROAD does anyone know of a source for at&n freight car photos, n service just prior to the take over by the frisco, have located 1 caboose, and a couple of steam engine photos, and 1 diesel, but no freight car photos at all, considering the at&n had a considerable freight car fleet, numbering in the hundreds, this seems uncomprehensible thanks mel perry
I have one photo of a AT&N freight car. It is a flat car in front of a caboose. I'm in the hunt myself. If I find any, I'll post 'em up.
