I was digging around the store room a couple of weeks ago and found a caboose that I had started to scratchbuild a good 30 years ago. The body, roof and floor are Evergreen styrene and the end platforms are from an old Silver Streak kit from long ago. I decided to make it a "Hybrid" and used a cupola left over from an AMB kit. It's painted with the Duplicolor Sandable Red Primer that I have come to like for Frisco freight car red. So, officially this is the last model I worked on, having finished it last week.
Well, you can't rush a good job. Very nice looking caboose. It's tough for men to say that to each other without comments from the peanut gallery.
Looks good Don. I notice you have it set up to run cupola end first. During the steam days, it seems more often than not, the cabs came along with the cupola first. Was that a Frisco policy or practice? Ken
I always thought that the way the cupola was oriented was just the luck of the draw?? Just random?? Tom
On another some what related note: My father always contended that the Frisco required a "low car" ( when available) before the caboose. I can't say that I've ever seen that in print.
Pretty first class job given the materials you were working with from days ago. I vaguely remember when we acutually built things. I'm sure I still have some Xacto chisel blades somewhere in my toolbox. John|-|
Several photos in Nick Molos book show the cupola forward. There is one photo toward the rear, so I guess you just throw the dice!! Dan
