E8A SLSF 2022 "Champion" on Train No 21, Clinton, MO The date on this negative is 5/22/1954. Trains No 20 and No 21, which operated the passenger local between Kansas City and Springfield via the Clinton Subdivision will make their last runs on 5/28/54 or 5/27/54. Frisco documents that I have state that the last run was made on the 28th, but an article in the Springfield newspaper makes the last date, the 27th. No matter, time is short, and this scene will soon pass into history. The newspaper states that E8A SLSF 2015 made the last northbound run. In this image, the express truck has backed-up to the Baggage-RPO to facilitate the exchange the parcels seen in the truck. Once business has been completed, SLSF 2022 will back number 21 the 3/4 of a mile to Clinton Junction, where it will re-enter the main line, and then continue its journey south. Scheduled arrival in Springfield is 2:05 pm.
Wow! Amazing. I was raised up and down the Clinton Subdivision half my life. I would never have guessed an E unit was ever used on that line! Are there any good resources with photographs of passenger service on The Clinton Line from that point and before?
E8A SLSF 2022 "Champion" - Excellent Photograph At Birmingham, AL Found this courtesy of another forum. Thought you all might enjoy seeing it. https://www.flickr.com/photos/130647200@N05/31512352321/sizes/h/ Andre
Andre, That is a great photograph of E8A SLSF 2022 and all of the mid 1950s automobiles. Neat photograph. Thank You! Joe
Very neat shot! No spark arrestors yet. Anybody know when they started mounting them on the E units and F units? It does have the Leslie five horn forward fixture mounted above the engineer. Wonder if they came with them from EMD or if the Frisco added them? The rear horn looks like the standard Leslie single. I saw E8A SLSF 2022 "Champion", former "Middleground", run through Rolla often. K
