2011 Frisco Convention Announcement

Discussion in '2011 Frisco Convention' started by Ron Williams (RIP), Sep 25, 2010.

  1. 3rd Annual Frisco Convention in Springfield

Springfield, Missouri has accepted the challenge to host the 2011 Frisco Convention. We have chosen Saturday, September 17 for the date. The location will be the Frisco Building, former home for the railroad's Springfield headquarters.

Charlie Dischinger, Louis Griesemer, Ray Wells, Ron White and Ron Williams will be your hosts.

Our initial discussion suggests that we can accomodate 75 people.

Activities will likely include operating sessions on Friday night for early arrivals and perhaps additional sessions on Sunday morning. Railroads to be determined.

Possible clinics being discussed include (unofficial titles) Switching the MFA Mill in Aurora, Traffic Flow through the Springfield Yard, What Happened to the Frisco Museum Materials? Ozark Feed Mills, Kerr-McGee Tie Plant. The actual lineup will be announced later once it is finalized. Louis has some rarely, if ever seen by the public, films of the Frisco in action.

We would like attendees to bring models for display. Space will be allocated for swap tables. Door prizes are being planned.

We think there will be a catered lunch and dinner at the facility since there is a restaurant located in the Frisco Building.

If you are interested in attending you can send an initial indication that you plan to be here to me off line at rjwilliams1@mchsi.com.

Any objections to my plugging this event on another forum? I'm a moderator at Trainboard.com, and there are more than a few Frisco types there.

Bob, we are an inclusive group and the more Frisco "types" we get involved overall, the better the entire group is served. We hope they are willing to register and join our forums and contribute as well as benefit.

I am really glad to hear that the guys in Springfield will be hosting the Convention next year. I am sure it will be a great one. It has already brought back alot of memories of past Model Railroad meets held their in the past. These are some of my favorite memories in this hobby. You can bet I will be there. Really looking forward to it.

The KC convention was great, and I enjoyed meeting so many members. I'm marking the date for Springfield and tentatively saying "See you there!"

Maybe in the future, once the Museum of the American Railroad has moved into their new location in FRISCO, TX and they have the new main building complete (which I here is supposed to have a conference hall), we could have the convention in the DFW-area.

    Re: 2011 Frisco Convention

Got my KRHS "Katy Flyer" yesterday and there was a press release from "The Museum of the American Railroad" regarding their plans for moving from Dallas Fair Park to Frisco Texas and also their expansion and so forth.
I never have heard anything about the actual moving of the railroad equipment. How it would be
done? Arrangements with (Which of ??) the railroad companies etc? I'm thinking
that moving the Frisco 4-8-4 and UP Big Boy will be HUGE problems.
The city park board here (In Springfield, MO) wanted to move our Frisco engine (4524) only about half a city block, but quickly gave it up as too difficult. Does anyone have any details about moving the museum rolling stock to Frisco?

    Thanks, Tom

    Re: 2011 Frisco Convention

We don't have to wait for the move to have the meet in Dallas-FW. The only requirement I am aware of is we need a group to host the meet and make all the arrangements. The meet for 2011 in Springfield is already underway but you could sign up for 2012. If you need any assistance, I bet there are some willing folks on this very website.

Did anyone say Discount Model Trains? Have it in DFW and we will all be eating Peanut Butter for a year!

What's the story behind the peanut butter?

It's a thing Rick McClellan started (note his avatar). He has stated multiple times that he will have to start eating peanut butter sandwiches to come up with the money to purchase the latest release of any given Frisco equipment.

Check out these links, I think you will get the drift (others have picked up the sentiment also).
