This is one of the Frisco built wood cabooses with a vertical side, steel cupola. These cabooses were originally number with 2 or 3 digit numbers. After the acquisition of the 200 series all steel extended or wide vision cabooses in 1957, this car was demoted to local service. In 1968 all Frisco cabooses were renumbered to avoid conflict with locomotive numbers in a new computer system.

Please help us with any information that can help identify the specific car number, additional history or chain of custody information for this caboose. The caboose was acquired from an area family who had used the car as a guest house on their farm.

The caboose is on display at the Drumright Historical Society museum. The museum is based out of the 1915 Santa Fe depot. The car is located on the north side of the street, just southeast of the depot. Please see the museum's web site at the following link.

At this location there is also on display a Frisco passenger car single window coach, SLSF 1062. The coach sits northwest of the depot. It can be viewed from N. Harley St.

The address is 301 East Broadway, Drumright, OK 74030.

    Please see the following link.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

    Mark

Edit 4/21/2024: The museum acquired the car from a local resident, Creek County Judge Charles Woodson, in 1989.

Confirmed on 4/29/2010 the road number from a museum scrapbook newspaper article photograph.

Information from museum volunteer Tiana Fortney who was kind enough to return telephone call to museum.

Added brief history of the car and confirmed caboose number.

The Missouri Pacific (MP, MoP or MoPac), Wabash, Gulf Mobile and Ohio (GM&O), perhaps Chicago, Burlington and Quincy (CB&Q), all rank higher here in St. Louis than does the Frisco.

    A sad state of affairs!

We Frisco railfans and modelers think the world of the Frisco and railroading in general as being very great and important things.

But the "general public" at large thinks very little or has any real understanding of anything to do with railroading, except maybe a "cute" toy under the Christmas tree. Especially when waiting for a long freight at a grade crossing.

The "man or woman on the street" could care less if everything to do with railroads disappeared tomorrow. And the attitude probably is not going to improve anytime soon.

Meantime, these cabooses and engines in city parks are slowly wasting away. The way of steamboats and stage coaches. But me, I will keep looking at my train photographs and railroadiana and keep playing with my "cute" little trains.

By the way, I wish I had a nickel for every time a visitor says my N-scale trains were "cute". It is usually a female.

  4. Caboose SLSF 217

    Hi,

Here is an old photograph of caboose SLSF 217.

I have never seen this picture before today so I thought you guys would like to see it. A copy of the photograph was given to me today by Mary Stahl. Her Grandfather on her mothers side, John Carrigan, is in the center of the picture.

I love that early Frisco Line coonskin look. :)

    Ship it on the Frisco!

    Definitely a dandy.

    Ken Wulfert,

I will await identification on what one would call those trucks.
