E8A SLSF 2011 "Gallant Fox" and E8A SLSF 2010 "Count Fleet" leaving Kansas City, MO.

Wish I had a better camera.

All I had was a little 110 box type disposable camera.

Edit 2/22/2024: Train is on the passenger train connecting tracks between Kansas City Union Station, MP 0.8, and 29th Street Interlocking, MP 2.0. The train has just crossed over Southwest Boulevard on a concrete viaduct, turned to the southwest and is now parallel to the boulevard.

It is passing the Kansas City Terminal (KCT) Railway locomotive facilities. First photograph view is looking north northwest. In the second photograph the KCT roundhouse and white water tank can be seen in the distance ahead of the locomotives. View is looking west.

A short distance ahead, at 29th Street Interlocking the train will enter the Kansas City Subdivision on its way south to Ft. Scott, KS and beyond.

Using trackage rights Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT) passenger trains including the Bluebonnet and Katy Flyer and Missouri Pacific (MP) Colorado Eagle ran between Kansas City Union Station and each railroad's connections at Paola, KS, MP 42.9.

Behind the photographer and the businesses lining the southeast side of the boulevard is the Frisco's alley track. It connects to the hill track just beyond 29th Street interlocking. Both the hill and alley tracks with their numerous spurs served numerous commercial and industrial customers at this time.

    Wow.

I know right where this is by Southwest Boulevard just east of the MKT yard.

No track there now, it is a parking lot for a commercial business.

    Thanks for the memories.

These are nice color action shots.

It just so happens I had the Springfield Library Frisco Collection site open at the same time.

I noticed their black and white picture of E8A SLSF 2011 "Gallant Fox" taken in July 1952 has the gold band between the portholes on the side.

It is not there in these pictures, though SLSF 2010 still has its yellow porthole window band. Some time has passed since July 1952 for SLSF 2011.

For you 35mm slide collectors, there is a neat slide of E8 SLSF 2011 Gallant Fox on eBay.

    See #310208419475.

It is fairly new, but already dirty. Note the Frisco-applied white outlines around the gold stripes and lettering.

The first EMD supplied white outlines started with SLSF 2014. Also note the clear view of the blue nose coonskin herald as originally applied to the "Racehorse" fleet, and the original horns, the pilot coupler cover still in use, and no spark arrestors yet.

    Nice picture.

Edit 2/23/2024: Added repaired link to Frisco Archive photograph. Unfortunately, the e-bay link is not recoverable. Once an item is sold or removed from the e-bay listing the link is broken.

Top image is Ft Scott, KS.

The bottom was in Frisco Southwest and captioned as train No 21 on the outskirts of Springfield, MO.

The consist does not look like the Clinton Subdivision local, and I am hard pressed to determine the photographs location.

    Maybe the West Belt?

Surroundings and layout of the track does not look like the West Belt to me.

Could the stock cars in the background be a hint?
