Since then I have used one on multiple occasions on a local modeler's layout; he models the Milwaukee Road Beer Line and all of his throttles (more than 4) are Proto Throttles. I helped him set them up to use with his Tsunami-equipped locomotives which we had programmed with the Braking Function. Decoder settings First you may want to change mapping of the Functions so that the Brake appears on a key that is readily accessible on any DCC system's throttles. The seeming universal key is 6. This re-mapping on the Tsunami I (CV 30 = 4) affects all functions above function 4 (CV39 - CV46). CV39 - CV43 = 0 CV44 = 64 Brake is on key 6 CV45 = 8 Dimming on key 7 CV46 = 16 Mute on key 8 For the Tsunami 2 re-mapping is a little easier. CV31 = 16, CV32 = 1 Sets the Index to 1, then; CV275 = 6. Brake is on key 6. CV286 = 255 Removes RPM- from key 6. To set up the Braking Function on Tsunami I (first generation) equipped locomotives, use the following suggested CV settings: Acceleration CV3 = 25 (for diesels) 35 (steam) Deceleration CV4 = 128 (produces the coast after the throttle is closed) Independent Brake CV 61 = 244 (this sets the Independent Brake rate at 116, Subtract from Deceleration Rate. To set up the Braking Function on Tsunami 2 equipped locomotives, use the following suggested CV settings: CV3 and CV 4 are set as on Tsunami I. Independent Brake CV117 = 244. Proto Throttle Settings Follow these Menu steps; OPTIONS, VAR BRK = ON, BRK TYPE = PULSE, BRK RATE = 0.2s, BRK ESTP = ON. CONFIG FUNCT, BRAKE = F6. SAVE CONF. The Proto Throttle brake lever will apply braking force based on how far to the right you move the lever, with the far right equal to an Emergency Stop.
