Workshop Wednesday

Discussion in 'General' started by yardmaster, Nov 15, 2017.

  1. Here’s mine this week. Intermountain SD40-2 in Tony Koesters Allegheny Midland scheme. Just for fun. It’s almost done. Hopefully get some good pics this weekend.
These don’t need much added for detail they are nice units.
For paint work I faded with oranges and yellows. All oil. Then a pin wash to highlight the doors. Some pastel grime finished it off to give a coal country look. Enjoy, Steve

    Frisco Nation,

I have been working on the detailing and powering of the larger diorama that I built from layout construction leftovers. Here are a couple of shots from last night.

Thanks to several Frisco Friends for some of the models included in these photos. @modeltruckshop , I need to discuss with you a project involving GP-7s.

  7. Thanks Mr Weems! I’d have to agree if I could find them OR afford them.

Clearfield Cheese in Clinton? If so, can’t wait to see more and maybe a separate write up on your construction technique, Bob.

Spot on. Test fit of roof. Not an exact copy, more of a representation.

  13. Not Wednesday of course but...
I didnt really finish any new projects this week. Work and life interupted. But I did get a few new building flats and took some pictures just to see how they look. So I figured I'd share a few.

I've been in a V scale mood of late as I let my hobby funds build. (V scale only costs me my time!)

I've been working on my Frisco route project, circa 1889. (Admittedly with some anachronisms!)

Over the past couple weeks I've finally got the main the last remaining 30 miles to Monett, Mo, also got the rails from St. Paul to Pettigrew, AND... threw in some basic scenery between at St. Paul and between St. Paul and Pettigrew.

Here's a pic taken on the bluff overlooking St. Paul. If you look close, you can see a Rogers 4-6-0 locomotive steaming way off in the distance.

    Frisco Friends,

I am afraid that I have been falling behind with my workshop posting duties. I had several items from the New Braunfels TX train show and a few other items arrive in the mail. Maybe can catch up with some photos this week.

Today, I scrounged through my decals and detail parts and worked on modifying the Bachmann ten-wheeler (issued as AT&SF model) into a Frisco stand-in for 443 (193 at one time). A variety of decals from K-4, Micro-scale, and others. Also found my herald boards for the front number plate. I am about 80% sure that this "bought new" model was actually a return to MB Klein as it is missing a couple of detail parts and some look like they were re-attached. Oh well, found some parts on eBay to replace soon.

I was not sure where to post these -- Maybe in the archive?
Someone - move them where ever you feel comfortable?
(Belong to a modeler up in Oregon who has a cup collection of four - I guess different cups?)

    Friends,

Actually catching the thread on a Wednesday (I think). This weekend, I managed to get to a few Accurail cars that have been waiting for weathering. I think I showed some of these during construction.

The KCS car was a $5 find on eBay and had to be repaired and cleaned up. The Cotton Belt and StLB&M cars are recent Accurail releases. The Monon car is a bit new for the herald applied, but I did like its style. The decals for that one are are from K-4. Not sure if I will keep this one or go to a truss-rod car from Athearn/Branchline. Some seem to have wavy roof-walks. They seemed to warp when I applied clear coat. Might need to tack those down.

    Take Care,
