Train No 807, The Sunnyland - Last Train - Chaffee, MO - 9/19/1965 - A Moment of Silence

I read somewhere else that on this day in 1965 the Meteor made its final run.

So did a lot of other trains including the Sunnyland, Kansas City-Florida Special and Will Rogers.

When the dust settled, we were left with the Southland and the Oklahoman, period.

Frisco sadly pulled out of the Dallas/Ft. Worth passenger market rather early.

The St. Louis Southwestern (SLSW) or Cotton Belt followed suit in the mid-50s. One by one, railroads in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex dropped their trains as well. At 40 and counting, Amtrak continues to prove that there is a need for long distance passenger service.

It is time for a album sized book on Frisco passenger trains. A real honest to goodness book printed on paper from Southern forests and printed in the USA!

The fellow on the left was my great uncle and engineer Henry Heeb. To his left is Cliff Pobst.

I recognize the gentleman to the far right, but can't recall his name.
