My wife and I are going to go on Saturday! I can't wait. I've never been to any kind of model railroad show of any type at all. I think I'll take some loot with me and maybe find some goodies:) I think it would be cool to meet any of you guys there. Craig, maybe I could call or text you when we get there.

This is an event that travels; I attended the Chicago-area version of it last year, and it was quite good. The best thing from my perspective was that there were a number of display (modular) layouts that were able to run really long trains, something that only a few home layouts are able to accommodate. Those who attend should be in for a good time.

Well I went to my first train show. Wow. I had the pleasure of meeting Craig (Ozarktraveler) and his wife. Nice folks. Now let me say that I don't last long in crowds and this place was elbow to elbow! Worse than Walmart on Christmas Eve. But I got to see tons of layouts including some Frisco stuff. Vendors were everywhere and I bought five used box cars for only $22. They were all early style wooden ends and one has truss rods. I'll check them closer when I get home tonight. Here's a sample of some Frisco locos.

I got in the Train Show shortly after it opened.
Just to be sure, I brought along a copy of Frisco Folks and tried to display it prominently. While I did talk to a fellow with a "1522 Crew" shirt, I was disappointed not to meet any others from this group.

I was shocked to see that the pretty HO "Racehorse" E-8 was pushing a flatcar in Jim James' picture below. When I found out it was a camera car and saw my face on the monitor from its feed, all was forgiven! :) Those Jefferson County Model Railroaders are a right fine bunch of fellows!

It was fun to see the layouts in all scales and talk to the people there.

Oh, that copy of Frisco Folks. Its flyleaf had a $2.00 on it. That meant I paid more for my Metro-Link ticket than I did for the book. In fairness, I have had the book since I bought it at the Museum of Transport shop around 1970.

I do miss going to these types of events. I hope to be able to get back "on the road" sometime next year when I get building the RR.

I had a stellar day for model railroad treats! Not only did I score 5 sweet early era box cars and reefers and a pickle car (future kitbash subjects probably) for dirt cheap but when I got home I found my Westerfield package waiting for me consisting of a wooden Frisco coal gondola and two sets of early billboard style Frisco decal sets for boxcars. What a great day!
