- I "grew up" in the Lindenwood Yard where I was raised by many fine Frisco folks.
I was the only 12-13 year old who had free access to visit the yard office and diesel shop. I was "raised" at Lindenwood by many fine Frisco folks who tolerated my curiosity, questions, and regular presence. I spent almost every Saturday with operator Chuck LaVar watching and occasionally helping him send/receive teletypes, writing clearance and train orders, and switching road units/trains in and out of the Yard Limits. Chuck was both a father figure and best friend. It was an amazing childhood. Joe Sauerburger was Diesel Shop Foreman shortly before his retirement. JK Vaden was Superintendent. I have an autograph book with all of the names of those who influenced me and told me to go to college first, and then, if I still wanted to work for the railroad to apply. - Loading...
