Here's an interesting Frisco menu cover, complete with a menu on the inside, which looks to be for a special group from the Kemper Military School in Boonville, MO, put together by Kirkland Travel. Wonder where they were going, and, where they got on board the SLSF? This one is mint, unused. Note there are no prices - must have been a full tour package.

It's been a long time since I've had baked Spanish mackerel for lunch. The breakfast looks like it was great!

I have several other Frisco menu covers which I'll be happy to post if the group is interested.

Here's one I have from Christmas time, the owner claimed it was from 1958.

Ken...the Christmas Seal says 1958, so I guess so. The prices sort of bear that out. The FRISCO had some "interesting" offerings. I remember the "club steak". You , indeed, needed a club to eat it. Sorry. The Kemper special move...over the Katy-Frisco but to where, I wonder. I chuckle every time I see Kemper or Wentworth (that was in Lexington, MO - on the MoPac). Everytime I had to appear before a school principal , my folks waved both in my face as a possible solution. LOL.

    Ken,

Absolutely! This is right down my line of interest. Thanks for posting.

Here's an older one, note the Frisco Lines logo with the bar below it. This is a digital file I have in my Frisco computer folder. Don't know the origin; perhaps from a friend, or from frisco.org, or from eBay. If eBay, I didn't win. Too bad!

Look at the meal prices. Those were the days ..... we went to one of St Louis' fine Italian restaurants tonight, had a great meal, didn't drink much, no frills, tab was still $60. But it was sure good !!!

The beef stew with vegetables sounds good.

Yep, probably a pretty good deal for six-bits. And, the train ride comes with it.

I never failed to have the "Ozark Special Plate" on #9 leaving St. Louis headed back to Fort Smith. I still contend that it was the best fried chicken I have eaten before or since!

My one and only visit to the diner on #9 - we tried to buy a Coke on the way down to Rolla in, I'm guessing, 1961. The guy sent us back to the buffet/lounge. He had people waiting for a table, so I guess that was OK. That was the first time I saw the Frisco menu covers - thought they were really neat. I wound up buying about 50 unused covers from Ed Heiss years later, still have 'em. Will post a special one shortly.

Here is the classic Frisco "Meteor" dining car menu cover - the one I refer to above. Sorry about cutting it up, but had to to get it all scanned. They would usually either print a paper menu and attach it to the inside of the cover, or just print the menu on the back of the cover.

But, this one is special - see the inside pages. On May 5, 1970, the Frisco celebrated its centennial in Springfield. They served this 1870 lunch menu as part of the celebration.

This was a good use of what must have been a tall stack of these menu covers long after Frisco passenger, and meal, operations ceased. They didn't use them all, however, I have a stack of 'em. Love that cover! Note that it is two E7A's - they didn't let the artist make the "B-unit mistake" again!

Here's another Frisco menu from 1959 that also shows Gordon's favorite "Ozark Special" fried chicken plate. Two bucks! Sounds good. This was also a bi-fold menu, same size as the classic menu I posted above.

I remember riding The Meteor from St. Louis to Springfield several times ca. 1960-61 and eating in the diner. Don't really remember an actual meal or the food as such, but I do recall how nice the ride into the Ozarks was at about sundown and the very nice view from the dining car chairs. Much better view than the chair car seats. The train looked a lot like the train in Don Wirth's home movie of the Meteor at Old Orchard. About that time of day, about that available light.

Tom - While you were riding #9 sitting in the diner having a good meal, I was the tall, skinny dude with a bunch of other geeky looking MSM Miners just looking for a Coke on our way back down to Rolla after a weekend home in StL. The boss man sent us to the buffet-lounge, which was where I usually rode anyway. It worked out OK.

I got even with the Frisco on one trip back to StL on #4 in around 1962/1963. My roommate, from Princeton, MO (Rock Island town), was with me for a weekend in StL. We got on the "Will" in Rolla with no tickets. We kept moving around to vestibules, etc, such that the Conductor never got around to asking us to pay for our tickets.

Though not a menu, here is an interesting little Frisco form from the Passenger Traffic Dept. This is what they sent you to confirm receipt of your request for a refund for unused travel.

Here's a blank Frisco wine list card menu, it is a bi-fold. The actual wine list was printed on the back side. Many of these have been posted on eBay and other places over the past few years, but I have never seen a clean, unprinted one. Here it is. Salute!

Here are my final two original menu postings - all the others I have are copies from other sources.

These are small, one card menus from the Texas Special and from The Meteor. These are both clean, mint, originals, never been printed on. The small size leads me to believe these were for the lounge/buffets used on both name trains, not menus used in the diners that both carried. They are both 5.25" x 8" in size, and are not big enough to hold a full diner menu on the plain back side, hence my thinking they were for the buffet counters. Anybody have any other ideas?

Enjoy. I think it is neat the way they are each different, but are obviously in the same style.

Ken...I think you are correct. These were buffet menus used in the Sterling Price, for example. I've seen one with the printing.
