Real railroaders sometimes miss family holidays. I can remember Dad being on the road sometimes at Christmas, etc. 4010 is bringing and extra freight into Lindenwood from the River Division in 1942. Photo by Barham, neg my collection.
Merry Christmas to all you Frisco fans. Enjoy your family times together. Don, thanks for that photo of another snapshot of history. Those USRA Mikes always looked great. Lineside poles? - there's an entire generation that have never seen them. I was in Dixon, MO back in October for my 50th high school reunion (a bunch of really old people). While there, I walked from Hancock to Jury. There were still some poles near Jury that no one had stolen nor sold, but they weren't standing. The siding switches are now controlled by radio. If anyone ever needs to hide from the law, camp out at Jury.
Quote: "Real railroaders sometimes miss family holidays." Airline pilots miss bunches of them. When only half of the schedule has Christmas off and you are the lower 30% of the seniority list, your chances are next to nothing. In 36 years I can almost count on two hands the Christmas' I was off; but sometimes I would work for someone else just to get a choice trip that I could not work otherwise - even took the family along a couple times if it had a long layover say 36 to 48 hrs. Our Christmas came between Dec 19th to 25th. Quote: "If anyone ever needs to hide from the law, camp out at Jury." Doug, Do you know something that I need to know? Merry Christmas to all from the Left Coast.
Doug - Not only lineside poles, but the "monuments" behind SLSF 4010 in Don's pic are on the way out, too. They were full that day! They are empty now. Ken
I just noticed the grain silo in front of the tanks, meaning their was a farm close by. Sure wouldn't guess that considering how urbanized the area is today. Brad
Well, it looks like a grain silo, but I think it belonged to Laclede Gas. I don't know what they had in it. Maybe a pump of some kind?
In the days before pagers, my father was alway on call, and he could never stray too far unless had had made other arrangements. He missed many family events and holidays because of broken rails, derailments, snow, and other incidents. It is always good to stop and give thanks for those who toil on holidays and who are separated from family, e.g., doctors, nurses, those in the transportation industry, police and fire, and especially for our troops. Welcome home, Philip. Merry Christmas to all and a blessed new year Verbum caro factum est
Great photo Don. I know I am biased, but I still think that the SLSF's 4000's were the best-looking USRA light mikes of all the roads that had them. Merry Christmas to everyone. Gordon
I thought I would add a couple of pictures to the Christmas cheer for 2012. Enjoy! Mike Sypult MP 333 Central Division

The Merriest of Christmas's and Happiest of New Years to all my friends on the FRISCO board. I have many, many fond memories of Christmas in Joplin and watching the somewhat expanded "Wichita Meteor" roll by my grandfather's house at 15th & Pennsylvania there. Buck Dean Jacksonville, FL
Merry Christmas from a Frisco Fan in Arvada, Colorado. Thank you to all who have responded to my inquiries.
