    I love bobber cabooses!

Why did MTH never make a Frisco bobber caboose?

    Caboose MISS 630

Although lettered for the Mississippian (MISS) Railway, caboose MISS 630 obviously originated as a Frisco built caboose.

Perhaps its Frisco number was SLSF 630 also.

Date and location unknown, but presumably in Mississippi.

    Photograph by Fred C. Bradley.

Edit 4/21/2024: Caboose was formerly SLSF 630.

Photograph at the Mississippian Railroad yard at 935 South Main Street, Amory, MS 38821.

Added confirmation of caboose origin, number and photograph location.

    Caboose SLSF 398

Here are some images of Frisco caboose SLSF 398 taken at Valley Park, MO.

A sign close by reads as follows

"Nov 3, 1998. 1935 Frisco caboose Original caboose # 398. Originated in Valley Park, MO. Moved to Ameren U. E. Country Club in 1962. Donated back to the Parks and Recreation of the City of Valley Park on Nov. 3, 1998. "A piece of history made reality". Thank You, from: The City Of Valley Park and Parks and Recreation."

    Photographs dated August 20, 2006.

    Photographs by Rich Lawler.

Edit 4/21/2024: Since these photographs were taken, the caboose siding has been replaced, repainted with a Frisco coonskin herald, reporting marks and number.

The caboose is located in Frisco Park at 583 Beckett Memorial Drive, Valley Park, MO 63088.

Added current status and location address.

  7. I drove through Weaubleau, MO recently, and it appears that the fire-damaged SLSF caboose shown in the 1997 photograph above is no longer there.

Caboose SLSF 27 and SLSF 28

Here are scans of Harold K. Vollrath collection photographs from October 1948.

Caboose SLSF 27 was caught in Enid, OK with the old Frisco Lines coonskin herald.

Caboose SLSF 28 was in Winfield, KS sporting the newer Frisco coonskin herald.

A friend in Annapolis, MD just found one of the old Hallmark Models HO-scale cars and sent me queries about these two cabooses. So I had scanned and e-mailed these photographs to him.

He is Bob Madison who has appeared in Model Railroader (MR) recently with his nice L-shaped New York, New Haven and Hartford (NYNH&H) Railroad Ninigret Cove Branch. He just moved, so the layout is being redone.

That is more that I have done in the 1-1/2 years since the move up here to Ann Arbor, MI. Carpeting goes down in the basement next week, so the new layout based roughly on the Gasconade River and Lebanon, MO I designed years ago should start in a few months. I have about 71 squares based on 27" curves.

The layout was originally designed for Jeff Barkley of Australia. Jeff lost his precious wife Gwen in December 2006.

  9. Caboose SLSF 103

I was wondering if anyone had any photographs of Frisco caboose SLSF 103 that is in Eureka Springs, AR.

I read about it in the Southwest Times Records, Sunday 2/25/2006, newspaper.

All it shows is the interior and entrance leading to the car.

It would not be prototypical, as Frisco had none.

Now that looks like a fun one to model.

Anyone know a build date, know its background or have a drawing?

I will go out on a limb and guess that it is homebuilt.

  20. Hi,

    I have a dumb question.

What numbers did Frisco cabooses have when steam engines were still king on the line?

Did they share numbers with the engines?

Or, did they have totally different higher numbers?

I would like to know for modeling an older caboose on my layout.

    Ship it on the Frisco!
