The ads are a great look back. Some recall the center spread advertisement in Railway Age from a later era (late '60's to early '70's) that clearly showed Frisco GP-7's pulling a string of auto racks down a grade with very familiar rock-face scenery. The copy in the advertisement spoke glowingly of rail's ability to mass-produce transportation as "...this train of autos from Detroit..." was doing.

There is a Fenton, Michigan between Livonia and Southfield, but that train and those cars did not come from there! Fenton, MO, not Fenton, MI!

Can anyone confirm the location of the photo of diesel crane 99053 in the Caterpillar ad? It looks like the North Springfield car shed to me. The "SP" reweigh stencil would seem to support this.

I really like the Youngstown Steel "before and after" photos of the USRA double-sheathed boxcar rebuilds. Thanks for sharing all of these, Charlie.

I'll have a few more to post soon. I love the QA&P stuff too. That's why I am pursuing QA&P, NEO, and AT&N photos. I have a project in the works but I need photos of the Frisco shortline stuff.

Some of these vendors got a lot of milage over "standardized" ads, where they simply replaced photo insets and RR names. We have a pile of advertising copy identical to the PPG, P-S, etc ads only instead of FRISCO, they say "Seaboard" or "ACL or Atlantic Coast Line".
