In a old issue of Model Railroader in the July 1961 magazine, i believe, they suggest using Caboose Red for the paint color for Frisco E8's. Has anyone used this paint or do you suggest another color for the red?

I think I used Floquil Signal Red on a streamlined car I painted to match another HMK or OMI car, I don't remember which.

I also have used signal red in the past, I just wonder why MR suggested Caboose Red?

As I remember it, there once were (and may still be) two caboose reds from Floquil; one was similar to boxcar red, the other a much brighter red, like MP and Santa Fe used on their later cabooses. Perhaps MR found the brighter red more to their liking.

I've not painted a Frisco E8 in its entirety, but have matched the P2K color pretty well for detail part add-ons with ModelMaster Insignia Red. After you flatten it, it is a pretty close match.
Back in 1961, the model railroad paint lines were fairly limited in color selection. Perhaps Floquil only had Caboose Red back then, maybe Insignia Red came later?
