Thread: Frisco Transportation Company (FTC)

    Default Frisco Transportation Company (FTC)

I have designed an FTC logo (black w/wings) for the Walters Frisco van that came out several years ago. I do not have any photos of the back of the box vans/trailers but I bet there were two small FTC logos there as well, one on each door.

Does anyone have any photos of the back of one of the early Frisco vans/trailers to confirm or destroy my hunch? I want to print some decals and get these things on the layout for my upcoming 1948-1950 sessions.

    Thanks for your help.

1948-1950 operating sessions? I think I'm going to have to make a concerted effort to clear my calendar when those occur.

I swear that I saw a recent photo somewhere of the back of the trailer, but I must be mistaken, as I can't seem to locate them anywhere. Several side/front photos here, as I think has been previously linked:

Seems plausible that there would be a logo on each door.

Rick, I have a lot of pictures of FTC trucks, but not one of them shows the doors on the back of the trailer.

Guess we can put anything on the back we want to then . . . . I like the idea of the small logo on each door.

In the interest of saving money, I would bet they only put it on one door.

You could very well be correct. I was thinking of what I have seen from other railroads' 40' vans. I think a lot of them had a herald on each door.

Does anyone have a clue as to what color they painted the trucks and trailers back in the early '40s? 1943 specifically.

I think they were red. The ones I remember were a "tomato" red, but very faded. The front tops and rims were aluminum like the yellow trucks, but I can't recall how the lettering looked. There were several earlier FTC postings here, but I can't locate them just now. I'll keep trying.

Edit: Here's a little bitty picture of the trucks from the 40's that were red. Very small: http://www.frisco.org/vb/attachment....7&d=1240071847

Edit 2: Here's another picture. Looks like the tractors might have been a darker color?? I'm thinking black tractors, red trailers: http://www.frisco.org/vb/attachment....5&d=1251304210

I'll really get everyone pondering with this thought, but what the heck! The FTC logo on the front of the van is located in the middle. Since the logo is round and the middle letter is a large T they could have put it in the middle of the doors with the opening splitting the T in half.

My speculation is since these logos were painted individually and not decals, there would be one smaller one on one door in the rear in the interest of cost savings.

I think there was an article on the FTC in the museum All Aboard. Might be a photo in there that will answer your question.

I have a few photos of FTC equipment somewhere around here. If I have time this weekend I'll try to dig them out and see if any show the back of a trailer.

This is great info. I did not realize the FTC existed until now. Does anyone know where their trucking hubs were located in Missouri?

In the Frisco public timetables there was always an FTC ad with a map.

Thanks. I noticed page 13 of the pdf file of the 1951 public timetable shows Clinton, Osceola, Collins, Fair Play, and Bolivar on the FTC map.

This has peaked my interest on modeling one of these trucking hubs for my High Line route.

Does anyone know exactly where these hubs were located in Clinton, Osceola, or Bolivar?

I will look thru any photos I have & let you know. I worked at FTC for several years in Sales, management
dispatch & other jobs others did not want. I should remember, but don't. Do you know when FTC ceased
olerations & whether the Burlington Truck Line & FTC Merged when the railroads merged?

I think you are correct in your assumption about two FTC logos on the back trailer doors. I worked for
fTC many years but can't remember & only have a photo of the front & side of a tractor trailer unit. The
photo I have was taken by John E. Craig, Jr., Craig Photo Company, Springfield, Mo. It is photo number
5079. It also shows dial 6-7512-- Springfield, I can send a copy, if you think it will help. I might be able to
find an old business card that would have the FTC logo in black & white. I worked for FTC many years & would
like to know if The Burlington Truck Line & FTC combined after the two railroads merged & what year FTC or
    the combined truck lines
