I voted "maybe". Am planning to go to DC to visit daughter and grandsons in Sept. If I can work it in, I may be able to stop by for a short visit.

Not gonna working being that it's in September. Maybe next year if it's closer to home and the second week end in August.

Can't make it - had to vote "not this year". This pains me greatly, but it won't work.

I voted as being a "Definite Maybe". :p

I really hope we can make it... but there is a lot of uncertainty (my Mom's health/situation) in our lives right now.

Will the wives have something fun to do? Or, if she comes along with me, is it book time and relaxation again? ;)

Andre,

Great question. My wife Jo has offered to take any interested ladies shopping, eating, shopping, site seeing, shopping, etc. The KC area has some nice places to go to that don't involve trains and Jo is pretty good at finding them.

I would ask that All Aboarders let me know if their wife, girlfriend, etc would like to hit the stores, restaurants, etc. with Jo on Sept 11. We could get them together via email before Sept and they could figure out where they want to go in advance and make everyone even happier.

Rick,

At this time it looks like I will be able to make it. Would you like me to bring the Heartlands Frisco slides?

I am not going to be able to make it this year. My son and his wife are going to have a child in the last week of August. Then our middle daughter is going to have her first child in the middle of September. The future Grandma and Grandpa Wintle will be very busy during that time and are really looking forward to their first grandchildren.

Hi Rick!

IF we get to head to KC for this... really looking forward to seeing your layout. What era will we see? B&Y? O&W? BN? BNSF? :D

As for Sharon... she's already said to not worry 'bout her... a good book... a quiet motel room... and she's in her own form of "heaven". I can't fully relate... but hey... whatever!

If the following has been asked and already been answered in a thread, simply link me to it. BUT... I was wondering:

Will we be all be centrally stationed at a motel w/conference room/whatever? OR, will we be on our own to stay wherever, etc?

For us, if at all possible, for lunch we're going to eat tenderloin sandwiches at the Tenderloin Grill on SW Blvd, and for supper Italian Steak sandwiches at Stacks Drive-In on Choteau Tfwy. These are pretty much "gotta' haves" when we're in KC! (We're "Road Foodies".)

Andre,

For 2010, my layout is in the 1977-79 era with O/W units, wide vision cabooses, auto racks, TOFC, pool trains with the UP/SCL, etc. I will be setting up an operating session on Friday Sept 10 but need to limit it to the first 15 registrants who are interested in operating.

Regarding the hotel, we are looking at offers from several hotels in the area who can supply us with a large meeting room. In exchange we will need to supply them with bookings that weekend so it is important for the Frisco community to support the hotel we choose so we can get the meeting space we need. We are having the hotel bring in lunch for us (part of the hotel package and part of the meet fee) on Saturday but you can still hit your favorite restaurants if you want to.

There are still a lot of details that need to be worked out but we should have some answers to most of the questions in the next week or two.

The important thing is to reserve the date for the meet and watch the Announcements area of the website for more updates.

Thanks.

Aw shucks... at this point there's not much way I could be there in time to operate/view the layout. One of these days...

I'd be happy to give a talk, or do a reading of one of the Frisco-related chapters from Kansas Train Tales.

I would love to go but driving a few thousand miles round trip is not something I want to do this summer. I do hope to get to one soon and meet many of you.

Steve,

Gotta tell you that meeting the folks on the website at last year's Frisco meet was the big highlight for me. I met Ethan Lawrence, Andre Ming, Bob McKeighan (who only lives a few miles from me and now is one of my operating crew), Dora & Patrick Furlong (Smokey Hill guys) and probably others that I will remember later.

Looking forward to the meet. This year we need to shoot as many photos as we can of everyone so those not attending get a good look at us.

I voted "maybe", but I'm gonna do all I can to get up that way. I normally have weekends off, and I'm sure I can swing a 3-day weekend. And besides, I miss me some KC barbecue:D:D

It'll also give me a chance to run close to the ex-Frisco line out of Afton north to Ft. Scott...............plus, the opportunity to operate on a bonafide FRISCO layout is way too good to miss.

I'll probably have to bring the missus along, but oh well.......she'll enjoy the trip.

RICK! Hold the phone!!!

This just in...

I think we're going to change our plans and leave Friday morning and head up to KC. (I'm cancelling an 8 day Harley trip so I can have the available days for this.)

IF there's still a slot on the Extra Board for one more in the Operation Session... can I have it????

I am eagerly awaiting the posting of the registration form so that I can register.

Mary and I moved our New England trip to October so that I can be at the convention. Thanks for not scheduling it the previous weekend, as that would have been a "no go" for me.

Looks like a 3-day vacation for me (WOOHOO!), so I plan on heading north to KC. Not sure if the missus is gonna go, but if not, I foresee some hard-core railfanning.

I haven't been to a Frisco gathering since we met in Eureka Springs, AR back in 1987. I look forward to another chance to meet up with all y'all (Texan for youse guys).

Any more room on the extra board?

Good deal "gla1975"!

Say, that brings up the issue of trying to figure out whoever "Coonskin", "gla1975", "Sirfoldalot", etc are... maybe we could purchase some stick-on name tags and have TWO names thereon?

Our "nickname" and our "real" name? I'm willing to purchase the stick-ons.

Last year we had some nice name tags. I still have mine and it had real name. Though I'm not going I would sugest name tags with Real and site names for the convention for easier identifacation.

Rick, Can't make in Sept, but maybe in like Dec. Hopefully before the O&W is gone.

Rick -
I'd voted "maybe" but the prospects are improving. Mentioned this to Michelle and she thinks we could combine this with a trip to see our friends in Overland Park.

Any minimum age limit on kids attending? I think Ben would enjoy the shindig, but he may also be torn between that and playing with our friend's kids.

Hoping to put down some of the NB/SB main lines through Olathe-in-Garage this weekend...

Chris,

Frisco Folks are pretty friendly, especially to younger model railroaders. I think Ben is just the right age (11?) to come to an event like this. I think he will enjoy the train ride too.

I voted no on the poll, but my wife, Vicki, and I have decided to attend. I had no idea she would be interested, but she really perked up when I mentioned the activities on Saturday for the wives who weren't attending the seminars-especially the shopping:eek:. (May God have mercy on my soul, uh pocketbook). I am anxious to meet you guys who are members of this org. and hopefully learn and maybe give something back about the Frisco. See you there, Terry

Well the poll still comes out even, as I voted yes, and now have a family conflict and will not be able to attend.

I could go for that suggestion.

BTW, on Trainboard.com I go by the handle of Friscobob- I'm one of several Frisco fanatics there (Charlie Dix and Howard Biby being others as well). My Yahoo name is slsf1630, and I have a Frisco coonskin license plate on the front of my truck. Now if said truck were painted Mandarin orange & white.........but that would be pushing it a wee bit. :D :D
