View Full Version : Workin' on an Oil Dealer

I decided to take a break from building structures for my Mill Track (extended Walthers Sunrise Mill {with CO-OP shed and large Butler Bin}and two Walthers red Elevators) and go back to work on the bulk oil jobbers.

Has anyone ever seen a prototype for the office building provided in Walthers Interstate Fuel? For some reason everytime I look at it, it reminds me of a WWii Japanese prison camp! It is sooooo ugly.

I have an "extra" Golden Valley freight house that will probably be what I use.

The other dealer will consist of the Grandt Line Warehouse and Bulk tanks.

From looking at the collection of field notes from Karl and Sanborn maps, it seems that typically fuel oil dealers came in multiples, hence two on my layout.

Glenn, unfortunately I am on the road again this week, otherwise I could post the pictures I took last Thursday of the Barton County (MO) Oil Company bulk plant that was in operation at Lamar, Mo on the south side of the Frisco main. I got good high res pix from all 360 degrees. When I'm back in town, I will post some of them (I think I took almost 40).

That will certainly be a big help!

Thank you,

Here are representative sample pictures of the Barton County Oil Co. in Lamar, Mo. This industry is located on the south side of the Frisco main between Maple and Gulf Streets.

Hope these are as useful as their intent.

I read Glenn's original post and that's what got me thinking about what I could use for an oil industry. I don't know how I forgot about this in my hometown. I wonder if Rick will have it on his layout. Also the old mill is still there, but not all of the track going to it is there, though BNSF sometimes puts cars on the good part of the track. And I might also note that it only comes in from one direction now, but you can still see were the tracks went across gulf street. Shoot I think they are actually there under the pavement.

Thank you very much Keith. They are now tucked away on my HD for future use.

Thanks again,

Ethan, I took the pictures for Rick since he is going to include Barton County Oil.

I am also going to post the pictures I took of the Frisco/MoP diamond, interchange track and the MFA elevator siding. I will place a link to the post here. http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?p=27009#post27009

For those of you that are unaware, Grandt Line has a kit

MIDWEST PETROLEUM DISTRIBUTORS
HO Kit #5907 $32.00

that will make a great starting point to help model this industry.
