SLSF 101-111, ALCo RS1 (AT&N)
SLSF 550-554, ALCo RS2
The ALCo RS1's were powered by their reliable 539 engine, same as the S2, and proved to be good units.
The RS2's, however, were a different story. They werepowered by the relatively new ALCo 244 engine, and were a continuing source of trouble. In 1959-60, the Frisco solved the engine problems with the RS2's and had all five of them repowered at EMD with the trusty 567 engine. From that point on, the RS2's were considered to be as useful as the EMD GP7.
