In 1960, and probably for a year or so before and after, Mopac operated an express boxcar in mail train 37 from St. Louis to Hoxie, setting out a 50-foot MP express boxcar at Hoxie. This car moved from Hoxie to Memphis and back in Frisco trains 105-106, then was picked up by MP train 32 for movement back to St. Louis.

Does anyone have details of this operation, ot how switching was handled by Frisco at Hoxie? A consist of 105-106 during this time, showing the MP car number, would also be helpful.

Thanks,

Bill Pollard

Subsequent research -- in reviewing a February 1961 MP Hoxie subdivision trainsheet, it appears that the St. Louis-Hoxie-Memphis express boxcar operation had ended by this time. There is no indication that either train 37 or 32 added or set out cars at Hoxie. However, each train sat for 30 minutes or more at Hoxie while mail and express was worked.

It is generally known that Hoxie was a major transfer point between Frisco and Mopac. Any additional information about how this was handled between railroads would be of interest.

Bill, I am not familiar enough with Mopac trackage to be very helpful, but both roads had a presence in Poplar Bluff, Mo as well. The Frisco had the Hoxie sub which ran between Chaffee and Hoxie, through Poplar Bluff and the MoPac crossed the Hoxie sub just north of Chaffee before crossing over the Thebes bridge into Illinois.
