I have been wanting to recreate an image-memory of my maternal grandfather. He was the foreman of the roundhouse in Joplin, Mo. From scottish decent, Gandpa Dee (Dan Dee) had a great work ethic. I only know about him from "tales" not sure what's true and what isn't. But for now, they serve me well as there is not much worth remembering of the rest of my family.

the memories - stories were:

he was a close friend of Casey Jones. Was the first person to Casey Jones' wreck.

it was said that Dan Dee could take apart a steam locomotive (blind folded) and put ot back together.

I have both his pocket watches given to him by the "company" I just don't know which company he worked for.

could be it was Frisco?

anyway I live in the San Francisco - bay area, 54 years old, divorced, both son and daughter raised and starting their own families.

would really like to obtain a picture of the Roundhouse - turntable in Joplin Mo.

I have a picture of my Grandpa, next to an engineer , iron horse and the Joplin depot

feel free to email me -

Steve (Foreman Dee)

Welcome aboard, Steve.

The book Frisco Power has a photo of the Joplin roundhouse and turntable. I have not found any on this site but they may be out there.

I suppose copies of the book may occasionally show up at eBay or through RR book dealers.

Best Regards,

Foreman Dee
