Frisco Depot in Poplar Bluff

Hi everyone!
Thanks for allowing me to become part of frisco.org. I am president of the Moark Regional Railroad Museum that is housed in the historic Frisco Depot in Poplar Bluff, Mo. We are celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Frisco Depot from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 5, during the Black River Festival in Poplar Bluff. In addition to the museum being open, we are having special Frisco exhibits in the Black River Coliseum across Fifth Street from the museum. The coliseum exhibits also will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission at both locations is free, but donations to the museum are appreciated. I realize it is late notice, but you are welcome to join us and bring any Frisco exhibits with you. I need to know how many are coming and how many 8-foot display tables you will need. Please call me at 573-686-2241 (home) or 573-785-1414 (work) if you plan to be an exhibitor. This is our first attempt with an exhibit outside the museum. Please leave a message if we are not home. The museum will be closed Sunday, July 6. Our regular hours are 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday except holidays. You are welcome to visit us any weekend except holidays.

Thanks for the welcome and the invitation to add our Web page. We are in the process of re-establishing a Web site for the museum. I will let you know later. Where are you located? How did you get interested in Frisco Railroad history?

I am in Granbury, Texas, but started modeling the Frisco in 1969 when my wife bought me a train set for Christmas. I grew up in SW Oklahoma and my relatives on Dad's side lived in Fort Worth. I somehow got connected to Doug Hughes and the Frisco Modelers' Group in the late seventies or early 80's don't remember. I became interested in helping Doug with the newsletter, but being a tech guy, said hey, why not a web site...

I started FRISCO.org in the 90's. It didn't really begin to grow until we converted it to a forum style, where members could post their own photos and ask questions. We are still working on the possiblities, but hope to get more new things online in the next few months. We have no "right of web presence ownership" for the Frisco, but hope to link and identify all the FRISCO resources and websites. The more the merrier...

So, that is the long and short of it.

I was one of the exhibitors at this weekends Festival. If you are a Frisco, Cotton Belt, Mopac or UP Fan this is a great place to visit. You can easily sit and watch the steady stream of UP freights which run by less than a 200 yards away. They have a lot of nice things on display. Thanks to folks at the museum for a good time.:)
