I'm new to this group, and model railroading, and just wanted to say hello. I grew up in Floydada, Tx, and often fell asleep to the sounds of cars being switched from the QA&P-Frisco to the Santa Fe for their trip west. I had a friend whose father moonlighted by oiling the cars before they were switched over.
The only time I have been in a working locomotive was when, as a boy, the engineer of a QA&P-Frisco loco stopped next to a trackside restaurant to refill his thermos. I saw him get out, and asked for a tour. Despite his tight schedule, he gave me a quick one, and my fascination with trains was sealed. The only other time I got that close was when my uncle, a Santa Fe conductor, took me up into a caboose in the Clovis yards.
The HO layout I'm currently constructing is of the QA&P-Frisco line from Dougherty to Floydada, Tx. It has been a long time since I was in that area, and if anyone has photos, maps, or any other information, I would appreciate it.
