I'm new here on the message board at Frisco.org and I would just like to say hello. I am trying to be a "historian" of the Salem Branch (Frisco) and the Sligo & Eastern R.R. (Sligo Furnace Co.), so if anyone has any pictures or information on either of these (or related industries & towns) I would appreciate it very much if you would post it on this thread. :D
I also have a few questions, if anyone would be kind enough to answer.
1. Where is Goltra, MO?
2. Where is Roulon,MO?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Alex

Greetings,

Welcome to FRISCO.org and best of luck in your quest. Goltra appears to be around 15 miles NNE of Salem. Here is a map reference for Goltra, MO: http://local.live.com/?v=2&sp=aN.q94fwc7cd7h5_Goltra%252c%2520Crawford%252c%2 520Missouri%252c%2520United%2520States

Roulon (Rulon, aka East End) is located around five miles east of Bixby. Her eis the map reference: http://local.live.com/?v=2&sp=aN.q8cpd57dddz0_East%2520End%252c%2520Iron%252c %2520Missouri%252c%2520United%2520States___

Hope this helps. Have fun,
mike

Another question: Goltra is near a place called "Sligo Junction" where a short extension of track went about 6 miles up the valley to Sligo. Was this extension Frisco track or Sligo & Eastern Track?

Alex:
The Frisco "Official List of...Stations...Etc." from May 1, 1926 lists the "Sligo Branch" of the Rolla Sub running from "Goltra" (109.6 mi. from Saint Louis) to "Sligo" (115.0 mi. from Saint Louis). Hence, my guess is that this was actual Frisco trackage.

Roger Taylor has some 9-2003 photos of this area, including a photo of the old junction at Goltra (http://www.frisco.org/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=1511&d=1129906830)

Is there any way to tell when that extension was constructed?

Alex - Roger's also posted some info on build/abandonment dates for this branch at

http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?t=899

It has things broken into several "segments;" since I'm not very familiar with this area I'll leave the joy of discovery to you or to others more knowledgeable who may be able to clarify.

Good luck!

Am I right that this:

Goltra 0.0 1881 1934 SFRR Dent
Sligo Furn. 5.1 1881 1934 SFRR Dent

Means that an extension of 5.1 miles was built from Goltra to Sligo in 1881 and dismantled in 1934?

Alex - that's exactly how I read it.

I've separately posted an image of the branch information from my list of agents/stations/etc. booklet at
