Found this Frisco Public Relations Department photograph. But it doesn't state location. View attachment Yard - location unknown.jpg Can anyone identify this yard location so that it can be moved appropriately?
Re: Yard - unknown location East Thomas Yard, Birmingham, AL. The Frisco is on the right, and the Illinois Central (IC) and Central of Georgia (CoG) are on the left. View looking northeast.
Re: Yard - unknown location After having a look at this image on a large monitor, I can now see lots of details. This is a very nice image that has lots to see. On the left is GoG 305, an SW9, built during July 1952. It appears that its switch crew is preparing to add a caboose to the cut of cars on the track for which the turnout switch is thrown. The Frisco ice house, ice dock and stock pens are visible, as are several coaches, which are scattered about. Given that Birmingham was the last bastion of Frisco steam, it seems odd that nary a single steam locomotive is visible in the vicinity of the coal tower and sand house. We might date the photo circa 1953-1956. It's a great image, Bob.
Re: Yard - unknown location Thanks for providing the eagle eye, Karl. I've always thought that modeling a mid-major to major Frisco yard by itself, in a small space, and focusing on the infinite car movements that occur, would make an interesting layout for those who don't have the real estate to model an entire subdivision. Add the foreign road element, in this case IC and CofG, and it becomes even more interesting, in my opinion. Bob's photo and Karl's description make me want to revisit this concept.
