After an absence of over 4 years, I painted an engine for a friend in need. Didn't think I had it in me any more.SEM black primer on the wheels and plated parts, Scalecoat I on the rest, ALPS printed decals and various mixes Dullcote/Glosscoat sealing coat. Pan pastel "weathering".Had to clean it up in the blast booth and lacquer thinner prior to spraying.I was lucky enough to have a couple jars of Scalecoat I black unopened and still fresh.Graphite is Scalecoat II brushed. Felt kinda good for a change.I forgot to mention something I learned from Hal Maynard. I use an old ALPS Md1000 printer, print my decals in white, but use Micro Scale black trim decal paper. It goes over shiny Scalecoat flawlessly and you don't have to carefully trim the image before putting the lettering on. Thank you Hal.Now if I was smart enough to learn how to print the artwork in Vector instead of Raster..................I know it would look better.

Joe Collias built it. A friend bought it and I painted it for him.
Essential tremor is making the job harder.

I saw that several unpainted models from Joe were up for sale. Wonderful work Don!

So that model has quite a pedigree! Do you know whether Joe Collias built it the same way you (frisco1522) did your "spot engines?" That is, if I recall correctly, a Hallmark 4400 4-8-2 with 2-10-2 machinery installed (plus other details, obviously).

Yep, we built them the same way. Sounds simpler than it was, but we kind of "reverse engineered" the 4400s.
I've built 3 of them, 19 and 40 and one for Tom Marsh at OMI. There's one more Joebuilt that's mine sitting waiting for cleanup and paint.

I finally have a contribution. I think the last time I shared here a project was before house construction started.

I was too wore out to work on the layout this weekend, so I sat down at the work bench and swapped out the stock RTR motors with Genesis replacement motors in a pair of SD45s.

It's a pretty easy process and I now have 2 SD45s that are worth running.

After reassembly, I ran both through the programming track. I then added a decoder to a Genesis GP38-2 and got it synced up with these 2 SD45s. I've now got a nice running 3 unit set of Frisco power, just need more of a layout to run them on.

Don't be frustrated, you will get there. Only so much time in a day. Taken me 15 years and still not where I want to be. What we should do is to plan a 3 day work session and people can come as they are able and do track work, construction, wiring, etc.

I appreciate the encouragement. I do have to remind myself of that every weekend.
