Tom. Thanks glad you like the NS piece. I like those caboose models. Great looking pair. I’ll always regret not bidding more for the blue one you sold. I had the money, just didn’t pay attention to the auction. Story of my life there. Ha. Glad to see you adding some projects. Sherrel hang in there and keep us posted. Andre, glad you enjoy retirement so much. I can’t wait. Mark, great advice we should all listen too.
LOL! You've nailed the USFS forest "brown" paint, the worn look, and the engravings are frosting! Well done! I've eaten a food bar at one of those picnic tables when out riding in the mountains, I just know it!
Ha. Thanks Andre. I was making the tables and my #3 son said “ it’s needs stuff carved in it to look real”. I loved the idea and learn d he is probably a vandal. HA
Just got a couple nice looking SD45's in the mail from Scale Trains. Don't worry, the PC paint wont stick around for very long, these two units are destined for the paint booth. I do like the simplistic all black look of these units, might try out some more alternate Frisco B&Y paint jobs on these.
The "Blue Front Bakery" assembly progressed. Now waiting on some dark blue and white lettering for the upper signage and the windows, respectively. The roof is not attached, as I am hoping to find some items suitable for the interior (some sort of baked goods racks and counter). Also, some good progress on the Bitter Creek 36-ft boxcar. This is the second one of these I have built. I need to install a few detail parts (corner bracing and brake hoses), do a bit of clean up sanding, and add couplers. The running board on the roof will be attached after a first coat of red paint on the roof to hide the gray primer underneath. Still debating an Iron Mountain route vs a St. Louis and Gulf decaling. The St.L.& G. (Frisco System) sets are inbound from Precision Design Co. and are a custom set. Take care All, -Bob T.
Neat projects Bob! Good luck on yours Ethan. I’ve never stripped any Scale Trains paint. I wonder how tough it will be?
A little 1700 taco stand progress this week. While hunting online for wheels for a truck project I found this cool little BMX bike a guy 3D prints. I figured it would look neat chained to a post near the caboose. I got the rafters and header done for the porch and have corrugated metal to go on it next. Gradually getting done. Lots to do still but an ever so faint light in the tunnel. Thanks for checking it out.
For the first time in a month it was not Arctic outside. So I took a few pics. Sorry it’s NS, but I have some Frisco stuff that should be ready soon too.
Good weathering techniques. What's the story on what appears to be a cab assembly in primer? Wreck damage repair and it was never officially repainted?
Thanks Andre. The NS has been rebuilding old dash9 units to modern emission and electric specs like the ES/ET from General Electric. This one got put back in service before it was fully repainted. Didn’t last long this way but I found a few pics of it. There are few like this I have found. I have a couple more planned as projects in the future. Thanks again.
Ah, I suspected such. Reason I asked, is I have a GP7 in the work pile that I claim got the nose and cab destroyed in a derail (thankfully the HO crew was okay), so the KC&G purchased a low nose cab kit from EMD, and fixed it themselves... but I was going to run the cab/hood still in primer with a stenciled unit number under the cab window because... well... money's tight on the bankrupt/reorganizing KC&G! (Paint n' labor cost $$ 'ya know!) Plus, I want it to be obvious this was not a factory conversion/etc, but instead a hurried home shop job. As a bonus, the engine will stand out and have some individuality... and it will have a story to tell! (My most faithful op session friend is aghast at this "still in primer" idea! ) I now have precedent in that even the Class 1's have pulled such a stunt.
This is what having fun is about, plus having imagination thinking out of the box. Keep it going Andre!
Well Andre I can help you there. Here is one that was wrecked right after the NS got half of conrail. It got a repair and primer and sent back out. It stayed this way for a while then got the full NS repaint. This is the proto and my attempt at the model. So make sure you log in and show him next time he is over! Ha
You do such a good job of finding unique cases to model, and then replicating them perfectly. Do you have a secret shrink ray somewhere?
