How about a repeat of the 1985 World Series?

Man, that Cardinal/Dodger game last night was somethin'! I was downstairs working on my layout and listening to the game on the radio. When Rosenthal gave up a run in the ninth, and went on to face Yasiel Puig, I was thinking it was going to be another blown save by Rosey and a walk-off win for the Dodgers. I had a soldering pen in my hand, and was shaking so badly that I had to pause for a minute to compose myself. But he got it done, and now we're up 1-0 over a team that a lot of folks thought was going to sweep us, especially with their dominant pitching. Just proves that the Cardinals never quit.

A rematch of the '85 World Series would be fantastic. Wouldn't it be neat if the teams traveled by special trains between the two cities, just like in the old days?

I think it was 6-1 when I went to bed. I had to be at work at 6:00 Eastern today and it's hard to stay up late when you get up at 4:30. I figured that it was a lost cause. I woke up at about 2:00 and decided to look on my tablet just to see how bad it was and if the Royals had any luck against the Angels. When I looked at the scores I had to grab my glasses because I was sure I wasn't seeing it right. My wife woke up and said, "What are you doing?" I think I was dumbfounded and wanted to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

    Exciting is an understatement!
most all of the wife's family around here are avid Dogers fans .. I had to appear a little subdued ....

I am certainly glad to see both of my home teams in the playoffs.

The Royals games this week have been very good, all three nail bitters in extra innings.

About that 1985 series, I remember my grandfather having a double billed hat, one side was KC the other St.Louis. He would rotate the hat so the leading team was facing forward.

A repeat "I-70 Series" would be neat. I'm rooting for the Royals to win the AL because I really like their team - hard for me to admit as I have really had a rough time even watching the Royals ever since AL Umpire Denkinger cost the '85 'birds the series win because of his obvious blown call at first base in the 9th inning of game 6. The Cardinal/Dodger game last night was really something - even though we were accused of stealing signs by that announcer, who doesn't seem to realize the Cardinals have a very good, winning record against Wonder Boy Kershaw. It's the Dodger pitcher tonight I fear - ex-Royal Greinke. The 'birds really have trouble against him, except when he was with Milwaukee.

I remember going down to the Kirkwood station in 1985 to see the Cardinal train come through on their way back to StL after taking the first two games in KC. Huge crowd. We were all feeling real good then not knowing of the upcoming disasters game 6 and game 7 would bring.

Go Cards, go Royals! (Though I'd also like to see the O's and the Nats advance) So far, California is not doing very well vs our two Missouri teams!

The way Amtrak operates the teams would have to leave a day early to be sure they could get to where they were going by game time. Also, for those old enough to remember, a Cards-Orioles would in a way be a rematch from the 1944 Series.

It most certainly would but this time it would not be played entirely at Sportsman's Park.

Now the Royals have to play the old St Louis Browns, err, uh ..... the Baltimore Orioles (since 1954).

Cards need a win tomorrow night vs the Brooklyn Dodgers, err, uh ..... the LA Dodgers.

I was in that state for a long time, until it dawned on me that, with a 2-0 lead heading back to St. Louis for 3, and at least 2 more starts by John Tudor, the Cardinals should have wrapped it up before game 6 was even necessary.

"The Call" with Todd Worrell, Jorge Orta and said umpire is one of those still photos that is immortalized amongst all of the other memorabilia at Booche's here in town.

I am thrilled that the Royals are doing so well, and am ecstatic for my Royals' friends who have suffered long enough.

    Chris -

Agree! We lost game 3, but won game 4. I had tickets for game 5 at Busch, and I was convinced I was going to see another Cardinal World Series win. Didn't happen, and in fact, the 'birds looked awful in that game. I was worried about going back to KC as the Royals had new life after winning two of three in StL. But, game six was a tough, close match, but with Worrell going and leading in the bottom ninth, with one out already, I felt good. Then Denkinger gained his everlasting fame (shame). The next night, the 'birds lost their cool, and it was over. I still can't deal with it!

I remember saying at the time, the Cardinals will either win in six or lose in seven. I hate being right.

Oh, man...........feeling really nervous. Rosey pitching to A.J. Ellis, who's hitting over .500 in this series. One out, two to go.....
