We are debating whether the location of this photo is Springfield or Tulsa -- how about a definitive answer from someone native to the area. Photo by J. L. Hoffman who lived in Tulsa and most of his photos were taken there, but a distinguished list member has suggested that this may be Springfield. Photo is dated 7-29-47 and note that this is one of the 1500's that was converted to burn coal. Gordon
I do not personally think this is Springfield, but I could be wrong. While there is an overpass that is similar over the Springfield station site, the brick building would need to be a part of the Springfield station complex, and I am not aware of a similar building that was part of the complex. There are no platform canopies visible, and those would have been this close to the viaduct in Springfield. I am only aware of one smokestack near enough to the viaduct in the time the Springfield station existed, and that was on the near side of the tracks, and would have been to the photographers left. I believe that the picture was taken at the west end of the Tulsa depot. The bridge (the architecture is spot on for all the viaducts in the depot complex) in the background would be the Boulder Ave. bridge. The smokestack in the background is in the correct location for the one at the Tulsa depot, and the passenger car is spotted on the coach yard tracks. The high ground at the right of the picture seen through the bridge piers is also in the correct location for Tulsa. Of course, that may not be enough to be absolutely sure, but everything fits for the west end of the depot. Terry
