in regular revenue service. An easy question for many, I am sure. Thanks, Kent Hurley Kansas City, MO nvrr49.blogspot.com
Howdy, Kent - I knew it was Feb. something or other, 1952. Found a thread where Paul B. pegs it as the 29th. See Baldwin 2-10-2 The thread title is misleading; it was a Mikado that had the last run, but I found Paul's note in a thread on the 2-10-2s. Best Regards,
February 29, 1952, Frisco Mikado 4018, used on the Bessemer local, made the last regular steam run on the Frisco running from East Thomas yard to Bessemer and return.
Yes - I noticed that! In two Leap Years afterward, I would be born on February 29th, 1960. Bob McKeighan Lenexa, KS
What was the last regular revenue service for a steam locomotive on the Frisco Central Division and what was the road number? Joe
Joe - I'm not sure I've ever seen documentation on individual divisional or subdivisional "last steam" service. A willing and able individual might be able to locate a tidbit in any local newspaper archives, especially if they are online. Seems like it would've been documented somewhere or other. Best Regards,
Thank you Chris. I thought it would be easy to find out, but I guess I am wrong. Sounds like it would be like finding a needle in a haystack. Joe
I'm not sure, but it seems to me I heard years ago at a FMIG meet that it was a 4000 that turned the final steam wheel. K
Thank you Ken. That helps me narrow down the locomotive. I want to paint and decal the last revenue service steam locomotive on the Central Division for my layout. Joe
Joe - Remember, I could be wrong. That's just what I think I remember hearing, I believe at the Memphis FMIG Meet, which was a hundred years ago! Can anyone confirm it was a 4000? K

Stagner's Frisco Steam Finale will offer some information that will provide an approximate date for the last steam on the Central Division. He notes that 12 of the the first 25 GP-7's were assigned to the Central Division, during November-December 1950, which made that Division the first to dieselize completely. Stagner's book also has a motive power "situation" table, which is dated 20 September 1951; it lists 1323, 1626, and 4027 as stored unserviceable on the Central Division. Locomotives 1015, 1022,1041, 1295, 1306, 1324, 1331, 1332, 1334, 1340, 1345, and 3744 as being stored serviceable in white lead. Gordon Mott notes, http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/steam-locomotive-lettering.3093/#post-20165, that he and his father saw the 1331 in steam at Ft Smith after Feb 29, 1952.
Good recall, Karl. I'd completely forgotten about the thread that Gordon started. The photo seems to have vanished; I wonder if it's the same as this one in his album of 1331 on the Ft. Smith turntable - I presume Ft. Smith - with Center Cab #3? http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?media/slsf-1331-ft-smith-ark-001.141/ Thanks, also, for the heads-up on the Stagner info. Best Regards,
Thank you Karl!!! I don't know what I was thinking. I've got that book right next to me. Looks like I've got some reading to do tonight, besides this website. Joe
